Greetings from Living Well Village!
We are pleased that you will soon participate in one of our Camps or Programs.
All of our Educational Programs use experiential teaching techniques to encourage people to explore their environment, challenge themselves, and make behavioral changes based on what they have learned.
Facilities:
Living Well Foundation operates the Living Well Village in Imperial, Missouri. It is situated on 250 acres of forest, wetland, and field with an all year spring feeding our 5 acre lake. Participants use our air conditioned or heated cabins with modern plumbing in the private showers and private toilets. All food is consumed only in designated areas. No food should be in the cabin.
Healthy meals are served cafeteria style in appropriate portions. If we are notified early of special diets we will attempt to make special arrangements when possible. Please make sure your group leader is aware of any special needs.
Supervision:
- The Living Well Village teaching staff members have all been background checked.
- Each Living Well Village instructor typically holds a degree or certification in education, recreation, natural science or a health related field.
- Your group is responsible for dispensing medication and providing first aid.
- Your group leader is responsible for notifying the Living Well Village staff of particular dietary needs or medical conditions/ restrictions.
- Your group leader is responsible for arranging emergency and non-emergency transportation.
- Your group leader is responsible for background checking your groups adults who will be chaperoning and supervising minors in your group.
- Your group leader is also responsible for the group’s behavior.
- Our expectations for behavior and discipline are outlined clearly by the Living Well Village staff at the beginning of each program. Living Well Foundation reserves the right to send any group or individual home because of inappropriate behavior.
Medical Assistance:
Rock Township Ambulance serves our camp and Saline Valley Fire House is about 4 miles away. Response time is typically less than 8 minutes from camp.
St. Anthony’s Medical Center has pediatric and adult emergency rooms and is located 7 miles from camp.
Programming: Please be aware that the Living Well Village staff operate with the philosophy of “Challenge by Choice”. This means that participants may choose their level of participation but our staff will encourage them to go one step further than their comfort level. Our staff encourages but does not force anyone to do anything that they choose not to attempt.
Preparation:
Please ensure that you are prepared for this exciting educational program. (For overnight stays—see the attached Packing list) If you do not come prepared—there is a chance that we will not allow you to participate due to concern for your safety.
- Living Well Village has high expectations for group participation and individual behavior for our guests.
- Both pages of the Health History and Acknowledgement of Risk and Release Form must be completed for every person at camp.
- Participants will need to be prepared to be outside in all temperatures and weather conditions—we only go inside if there is thunder and lightning. Due to the nature of these programs it is imperative that participants wear clothing that can get dirty and wet. (It is a good idea to bring an extra change of clothes and dry socks.)
- Shoes MUST be a tie tennis/ athletic shoe that ideally is leather so it is waterproof.
- You will also need a water bottle!
- Sunscreen, bug repellent and rain gear will keep you comfortable. (Warm coat/jacket, gloves, hat and long underwear are appropriate if it is cold)
- In order not to spread diseases and unwanted infestations, please make sure you are healthy and that personal items are free of lice, bed bugs, fleas, etc.
Phone Calls:
Please direct all calls to your group leader prior to arrival at camp. Communication works well when we follow specific guidelines to keep everyone in the loop. If someone must reach you during camp, please have them call our office 636-674-5014 and leave a message. We do check messages before/ after meals and before bedtime, but the rest of the time we are working with guests.
Visitors:
In order to keep our guests safe we have a check-in process and meeting for each group as they arrive at camp. If you have a reason to be at camp and are not coming at the beginning of the program please make sure that the group leader is aware and can inform the Living Well Village staff. Please remember that all people on camp must complete a Health History and Acknowledgment of Risk and Release form. Gates are closed during the night hours to camp. Doors have locks on them.
In closing you will find important gifts that you have to offer your team and begin to see the value of each other’s gifts. We also hope that you will see how interconnected we all are and begin to realize not to take anything for granted….especially your health.
Everything you do today is making you the person you will be tomorrow. Choose wisely!
We at the Living Well Village are honored to be a part of your life journey. We hope you enjoy your time with us.
If you have questions or concerns about anything regarding this experience, please contact your group leader or email one of us at contact@livingwellvillage.org
